Faced with the impact of COVID-19 in the world, the EXPO 2020 DUBAI will be postponed by a year

The one-year postponement of the EXPO 2020 DUBAI, discussed since several weeks, has just obtained the threshold of two thirds of the member countries of the International Bureau of Exhibitions (BIE).

This postponement will still have to be formally approved by the BIE, but the majority provided for by Article 28 of the Paris Convention of 1928 for a change of dates is acquired.

Given the evolution of the spread of COVID-19, this postponement is part of a concern for the protection of public health.

The aim is to protect not only the health of the more than 40,000 workers working on the site, but also of the millions of visitors expected.

The next Universal Exhibition will now take place from 1st of October 2021 to 31st of March 2022, while keeping its name «EXPO 2020 DUBAI».

According to the GIE Luxembourg @ EXPO 2020 DUBAI, this postponement will not only ensure better safety for workers and visitors, but also allow a better preparation of the Expo, which could become a unique opportunity to stimulate economic recovery after the crisis.
