Scenography of the Luxembourg Pavilion

The scenography of the Luxembourg Pavilion at EXPO 2020 DUBAI aims to showcase the Grand Duchy as an exceptional country to live in and visit, but also as a committed, international partner that offers a business-friendly environment with direct access to the European market, and as a facilitator to innovative ideas that will help to create a better world.

The country will be presented through the overall theme of ”Resourceful Luxembourg”. The goal is to demonstrate the importance of sustainable resource management and the need to reinvent them while promoting the country and its potential.

The resourcefulness of Luxembourg will be exhibited through 5 segments: diverse, connecting, sustainable, enterprising, and beautiful. Each one reflects different key aspects of the country.

Visitors will have the opportunity to experience the Grand Duchy with ”all their senses”, as each segment of the scenography, developed by JangledNerves, offers a unique perspective of Luxembourg to its visitors.

The whole tour lasts approximately 20 minutes, and the Pavilion can host up to 500 people.

Let’s dive into each of the 5 segments of the Luxembourg Pavilion at EXPO 2020 DUBAI!

Diverse

diverse

From the entrance, visitors will have the chance to view the first segment of the Pavilion entitled ‘’diverse’’. During this section of the scenography, visitors will listen to the personal stories of non-nationals living in Luxembourg, border workers, and Luxembourgers about what they cherish about the country.

Indeed, Luxembourg is one of the most cosmopolitan countries in the world, with a population made up of 170 nationalities, 48% of which are non-Luxembourgish.

In addition, almost 1/3 of the Luxembourg workforce is international. Approximately 185,000 people from Germany, Belgium, and France commute every day to work in various Luxembourgish cities.

The country has a high number of highly skilled workers and it is holding 3rd place in the 2020 World Talent Ranking index.

It is thanks to Luxembourg’s diversity that the country turns into a place where creations of any kind take root and can be developed sustainably.

The “Diverse” segment of scenography demonstrates the coherent and approachable image of the country that is flexible enough to support various specifics of different cultures, industries, and business ideas.

Connecting

connecting

Following the corridor, visitors arrive at the second segment of the Pavilion, dedicated to the “connecting” aspect of Luxembourg.

The country builds bridges that connect companies, markets, and countries by combining years of cross-border expertise and quality infrastructure. As a solution-driven center, Luxembourg provides essential services to investors and businesses to achieve ambitious goals in an international environment.

Its leadership position in the economy, technology, and innovation sectors and its high-level infrastructure enable a data-driven and secure digital environment for all types of businesses.

In addition, it is thanks to its space and satellite sector that Luxembourg is connecting people all over the world. Currently, Luxembourg is the second country in the world (after the US) that has legally regulated the exploration of space and use of its resources.

One of the world leaders in the field of connectivity solutions is SES who has its headquarters in Luxembourg. The company uses a cloud network to provide high-speed connectivity in all kinds of environments. SES developed the O3b MEO system with low-latency data communication and it is used worldwide.

On the other hand, POST Luxembourg, the national market leader in the ICT sector, provides connectivity through its telecommunication networks. It follows the latest technology trends and provides technical solutions while developing high-speed networks. This guarantees fast and secure communication and data exchange while providing real-time connectivity to all.

As official partners of the Luxembourg Pavilion at EXPO 2020 DUBAI, SES and POST Luxembourg contribute to a new, smarter, and more connected tomorrow.

Furthermore, Luxembourg has a strong focus on innovation and research which aims to increase connectivity all over the world.

Sustainable

sustainable

The key aspect of “sustainable” is not only represented by the Pavilion’s shape representing the circular economy in the form of a Möbius strip.

Every pavilion visitor will learn about Luxembourg’s leading role when it comes to green finance. Many educational videos and presentations will be available for all interested visitors.

Luxembourg Green Exchange platform is an example of green finance initiatives. The platform is connected to the Luxembourg Stock Exchange, a platform for investors and providing access to green and sustainable financial instruments.

The strong orientation towards sustainable development of the country is demonstrated through a legal framework that is in line with the latest sustainability EU standards. Namely, Luxembourg is the first country in Europe to have a Sustainability Bond Framework that complies completely with the newest EU recommendations about green finance.

Sustainable development fosters values that are inseparable from the circular economy. The country strives to create an environment that prioritizes products and services created based on circular principles while promoting the transition to cleaner, pollution-reduced, and smarter use of resources.

To contribute to a more sustainable tomorrow for all of us, Luxembourg dedicates 1% of its GNI to development cooperation. This makes Luxembourg’s development cooperation the second most generous contributor in the world.

Enterprising

enterprising

As guests proceed with the tour, they’ll discover the section of enterprising arises.

During the enterprising part, visitors enter the area to enjoy an enticing video about Luxembourg’s constant self-invention over the last decades.

Indeed, the Grand Duchy has an enviable track record when it comes to embracing change and willingness to adapt. Over the years, Luxembourg has successfully reinvented itself from being an agricultural economy to the steel industry to become a leading financial, technological, space, and innovation center in the world.

In the 1970s, when the steel crisis struck, Luxembourg shifted its goals towards creating a strong, service-oriented country. It took only a decade to evolve from a blooming steel center to a renowned export-focused economy.

The first satellite-based communication services were established in Luxembourg during the 1980s. Today, the country has a high-value global connectivity infrastructure, and it produces equipment and technical components for satellites and space travel.

The 1990s brought accelerated development of the information and technology sector, and in the last 30 years, Luxembourg is turning into one of the finest centers for empowerment and support of businesses in all stages.

Therefore, thanks to its innovation-driven role, Luxembourg of the 21st century is home to one of the most thriving start-up communities in the world.

Beautiful

The fifth sector of the Luxembourg Pavilion at EXPO 2020 DUBAI will show the country’s beauty.

The natural diversity of beautiful Luxembourg is reflected in the recreation of Luxembourg’s lush nature. Amid plains and woods, strewn with lakes and rivers, Luxembourg’s natural landscapes are enchanting as well as fascinating.

To recreate the feeling of being in Luxembourg, a signature fragrance has been developed for this part of the scenography. The audience will have the opportunity to smell the lush forests of Luxembourg at EXPO 2020 DUBAI.

The highlight (for young and old!) is certainly the three-story slide. The slider is a nod to the popular fair Schueberfouer while providing a fun element of entertainment for all visitors.

The slide is a combination of stainless steel and plexiglass. The stairs are available to guests who do not wish to use sliders.

Restaurant and shop

By the end of the tour, visitors shouldn’t miss the Luxembourg Pavilion’s restaurant “Schengen Lounge” where they can enjoy Luxembourgish fusion cuisine influenced by flavors from Luxembourg’s international community. The restaurant is managed by the Michelin-starred chef, Kim Kevin de Dood.

Visitors shouldn’t leave without having a look at a shop where they can purchase a Luxembourg-themed souvenir of their memorable visit to the Luxembourg Pavilion at EXPO 2020 DUBAI.
