Meet the sponsors: ArcelorMittal

ArcelorMittal is one of the world’s leading steel and mining companies, with a presence in 60 countries and primary steelmaking facilities in 17 countries. Their goal is to help build a better world with smarter steel. Steels are made using innovative processes which use less energy, emit significantly less carbon, and reduce costs. This is what ArcelorMittal believes it takes to be the steel company of the future.

ArcelorMittal has its worldwide headquarters in Luxembourg and has 8 sites in the country, including corporate centers in Luxembourg-City and Esch-sur-Alzette, various steel production facilities of long and wire products as well as distribution and steel service centers and an R&D center.

ArcelorMittal Luxembourg is a top producer of long products like beams and steel sheet piles that provide innovative solutions to the construction industry.

Belval, Differdange, Rodange, and Bissen plants are internationally known respectively for sheet piles, high-performance beams, large rails offer, and steel fibers.

Our high-performance steel grades from ArcelorMittal Differdange have a worldwide reputation for use in high-rise buildings and save up to 40% of the material weight and accordingly CO2.

Belval site’s best-seller, sheet piles, achieved leadership in this market segment through high quality and reliability.

Specialized in the production of rails, ArcelorMittal Rodange notably developed its activity of grooved rails specifically for trams.

Last but not least, ArcelorMittal Bissen is active in three market segments: wire for fencing and agriculture, industrial wire, and wire for reinforced concrete.

What is your motivation to be a partner of the Luxembourg Pavilion at EXPO 2020 DUBAI?

ArcelorMittal is a major economical actor in Luxembourg and presents in the Grand-Duchy for more than 100 years so by this participation it is important for the Group to show that its history is intricately linked to Luxembourg’s history.

The Universal Expo is an incredible event offering the possibility to show our knowledge of the Grand-Duchy to potential future partners. Our presence is then a logical continuation of the development of our activities.

This includes the 170 tones of hot-rolled structural steel shapes made in Luxembourg mills of Belval and Differdange supplied to build the pavilion and showing our capability to offer a steel structure complying with the circular economy values.

Indeed, after the event, the pavilion will be disassembled, transported, and reassembled for the next use life.

With this kind of solution, we demonstrate our expertise and capability to offer highly innovative solutions meeting ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) model.

What are your objectives/goals/expected outcomes of your participation?

For potential partners, our goal is to make them know that our facilities can provide high potential steel for their project answering to the highest standards.

For civil visitors, once they get out of the pavilion, they will have understood that our company is developing projects and products to reduce CO2 emissions at every level: from production to final use.

What story do you want to tell by participating in EXPO 2020?

To put it simply, I could be summarized like this: “Luxembourg and ArcelorMittal, made by steel”.

We want to reinforce the image of the Grand-Duchy as an industrial land made by the steel industry which answers today and tomorrow’s challenges.

Why are the UAE and the Gulf region particularly interesting for your institution?

The Gulf region is an important market for the steel solutions we produce in Luxembourg.

Heavy beams and sheet piles are integrated into iconic projects there. The Burj Khalifa is one of the most remarkable ones.

Without our steel, this building would not have been that tall, just because concrete cannot reach those heights! 3,000 tons of our steel beams produced in Differdange were integrated at the top of the building.

Our beams are also in the Al Wasl Tower and the One Za ‘Abeel, our sheet piles have been used to build the Palm Jumeirah, and our steel fibers used for concrete reinforcement have been selected for the subway in Doha.

These projects show how fast this region is developing its facilities and they are showing the way to the next tallest skyscrapers that will need our top-quality products from Luxembourg.
