Franz Fayot visits the Luxembourg Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai in the presence of partners and sponsors
The first day of the economic mission led by the Minister for the Economy, Franz Fayot, was devoted to discovering the Luxembourg Pavilion at the Expo 2020 Dubai World Exhibition.
The minister, accompanied by representatives of the Ministry of the Economy and the partners and sponsors of the pavilion project, took a guided tour of the Luxembourg Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai. They were welcomed by the Commissioner General, Maggy Nagel, who said: “Luxembourg’s presence at this first universal exhibition organised in the Middle East is an excellent opportunity to make Luxembourg, its values and its achievements better known.
The modernity, technicality and originality of our pavilion reflect Luxembourg’s ability to reinvent itself.”
The visit to the pavilion allowed visitors to discover the exhibition housed within the pavilion, which is composed of an ambulatory scenography, presenting the Grand Duchy under the 5 aspects of diversity, connectivity, sustainability, entrepreneurship and beauty. The exhibition provides general information on the country, but also on the different sectors of the economy, with a section devoted to the development of the space sector.
A press conference organised in the pavilion provided an opportunity to review with the members of the EIG the realisation of the project, the results expected from participation in the World Expo and the key role of the partners (Chamber of Commerce, POST Luxembourg, SES) and sponsors (ArcelorMittal, Cargolux, RAK, Guardian Glass, MCM Luxembourg and Schroeder Joailliers) who supported the project. On this occasion, the Minister of the Economy, Franz Fayot, declared: “I would like to pay tribute to the professionalism of the GIE Luxembourg@Expo2020Dubai team, which managed to deal with the difficulties and unforeseen events following the COVID-19 pandemic and the postponement of the Expo.
Luxembourg’s presence at Expo 2020 Dubai was the subject of close collaboration with the private sector throughout the planning and implementation phase. The result is an emblematic pavilion that reflects our country’s desire to move forward by focusing on sustainable growth, while respecting natural resources.
Chamber of Commerce Director Carlo Thelen added: “In keeping with its mission to promote Luxembourg companies internationally, the Chamber of Commerce has put in place an ambitious economic programme offering high visibility to various key sectors of our economy. Having initiated the participation of the Grand Duchy in the first World Exhibition in London more than 170 years ago, the Chamber of Commerce has seen a strong resonance with companies to develop internationally over the years. Today, the Chamber of Commerce is proud to be once again a privileged partner of the Government in promoting this magnificent Luxembourg Pavilion in Dubai.
Claude Strasser, Managing Director of POST Luxembourg said: “As an expert in the field of digitalisation, POST Luxembourg is particularly proud to take part in the Government’s efforts to pave the way towards a digitalised economy and to represent the Grand Duchy’s know-how in this field. At the same time, the millions of visitors expected to visit the Luxembourg Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai offer a unique opportunity for POST to contribute to positioning Luxembourg on the international scene in the information and communication sector. Moreover, the theme of the exhibition ‘Connecting minds, creating the future’ fits perfectly with POST’s vision and values, and in particular its strong commitment to promoting both innovation and sustainable development.
“Luxembourg’s participation in the World Expo comes at a pivotal moment when the world is accelerating the adoption of digital tools and artificial intelligence, and is building cutting-edge networks and quantum technologies. In this respect, Luxembourg has much to offer the world and can help accelerate this evolution,” said Steve Collar, CEO of SES. “As a leading space company based in Luxembourg for more than 35 years, we are proud to be part of the national drive to support this global transformation and new era of innovation, and look forward to being a part of the next great developments to come.”
During the afternoon, the programme included a visit to other countries’ pavilions at the Expo 2020 Dubai site. The delegation visited the Emirati, Japanese and Canadian pavilions. Japan will also host the next World Expo in 2025 in Osaka, in which Luxembourg has already officially confirmed its participation.
