Circularity under the spotlight at Expo 2020 Dubai
LUXEMBOURG IS IN FAVOUR OF THE ACTIVE DEVELOPMENT OF A CIRCULAR ECONOMY IN ALL SECTORS
The Sustainability Mission will take place from 17 to 23 January 2022 at Expo 2020 Dubai against a backdrop of circularity and sustainable development. A special programme was developed for the occasion.
Expo 2020 Dubai is a unique opportunity to promote economic relations at international level. And the event is also the perfect time to highlight Luxembourg’s commitment to circularity. That is why the Chamber of Commerce has launched a series of sector-based economic missions, in collaboration with the Ministry of the Economy, which will take place until the end of Expo 2020 in March 2022.
The next mission on the agenda is the Sustainability Mission, which will run from 17 to 23 January 2022. It will be organised in connection with Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), a key event promoting the use of renewable energy and clean technology worldwide. ADSW will be attended by a unique group of political leaders, specialists, industrial experts and technology pioneers in the field of sustainability. The 2020 edition attracted 45,000 participants from 170 countries, with more than 500 high-level speakers from all over the world.
The Sustainability Week programme will also include a VIP visit to the Luxembourg Pavilion at Expo 2020, a visit to a selection of other pavilions linked to sustainability, visits to flagship projects related to the sector and networking events.
A pavilion that showcases circularity
Luxembourg promotes the active development of the circular economy in all areas. As a pioneer in a number of sectors – including finance, construction and space resources -, Luxembourg today stands as one of the leaders in the field.
The Luxembourg Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai reflects this regenerative economy. The wavy form of the structure, which gives an impression of infinity, conveys the idea of circularity and represents a signal for the future. The pavilion, whose design was inspired by the idea of a Möbius strip, is based on the theme ‘Resourceful Luxembourg’ and embodies the principles of the circular economy, while also symbolising the country’s openness and dynamism.
Sustainability Week is the fourth in the series of missions developed by the Chamber of Commerce and the Ministry of the Economy for Dubai. The ICT Mission (17.10.2021 to 22.10.2021) brought together the global technological community to present and discuss the most innovative ideas that are shaping the future of the sector.
During “Made in Luxembourg” Week (31.10.2021 to 06.11.2021), the Luxembourg Pavilion showcased the rich and varied palette of landscapes in Luxembourg, using a digital tool to present the country’s cultural and natural heritage.
The economic mission that ran from 24.10.2021 to 30.10.2021 focused on the space industry. It was held in parallel with the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Dubai, the key event for players in the global space ecosystem, which each year attracts some 6,000 participants from all corners of the planet. For this 72nd edition, Luxembourg hosted a national pavilion, organised with the support of the Luxembourg Space Agency, with eight Luxembourg exhibitors.
Each mission provides the opportunity to visit a trade fair, meet with relevant representatives and speakers from Luxembourg, participate in B2B meetings, take part in guided tours, attend various networking receptions and join visits to companies or flagship projects related to that mission.
