The Luxembourg Pavilion at Expo 2025: A Circular Journey from Vision to Reality
From the very beginning, the Luxembourg Pavilion was designed according to the principles of the circular economy, it’s therefore “circular by design”. The Pavilion was built using standardised Japanese components, designed for disassembly and reuse, with circularity applied across the entire process—from concept to materials.
The event retraced this unique journey, showcased the technologies behind the Pavilion—including Luxembourg’s pioneering Product Circularity Data Sheet (PCDS)—and explored how digital tools and international partnerships can support a transition to more circular, sustainable construction practices.
The opening remarks made by Minister Obertin were followed by interventions of institutional and corporate representatives, as well as a roundtable discussion with Japanese partners.
At the roundtable, these Japanese partners, including Semba Corporation, Mondo Design, Naito House, Nesta Resort Kobe, Rakuten and Circle Design, offered valuable perspectives from the Pavilion’s implementation of the circular economy principles and beyond.
This event not only celebrated a flagship circular project but also emphasised the Luxembourg-Japan cooperation in sustainable innovation—paving the way for future partnerships and shared learning.
