Presentation of the Luxembourg pavilion
Luxembourg’s participation in the 2020 Universal Exhibition organized from 20 October 2020 to 10 April 2021 in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates is taking shape.
At the press conference on 7th of April 2017, Luxembourg’s Commissioner General for the Luxembourg pavilion at EXPO 2020 DUBAI, Maggy Nagel, explained the procedure for selecting the design of the Luxembourg pavilion: 19 projects were submitted as part of the call for proposals for the design of the Luxembourg pavilion for the World Expo in 2020. After a first selection of three projects, the jury finally selected the concept developed by the architects from METAFORM in collaboration with the scenography designer The Space Factory.
The design of the pavilion revolves around the theme of opportunity. Elegantly shaped, the Luxembourg pavilion immediately triggers the visitor’s curiosity. The structure of the banner forms a very visible opening inviting the visitor to enter and to discover, progressively via a spiral path, exhibition spaces set up around various multimedia installations.
During the presentation of the Luxembourg pavilion and in the presence of the representatives of the members of the GIE LUXEMBOURG @ EXPO 2020 DUBAI, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Economy Étienne Schneider commented: “The Luxembourg pavilion will be in its form and by its content a perfect asset for Luxembourg at the EXPO 2020 DUBAI. It illustrates Luxembourg’s ability to reinvent itself and our commitment to sustainable growth while respecting natural resources. I am confident that we will attract many visitors who will gain a favorable impression of our country and that our private partners will also benefit from this development.”
François Bausch, Minister of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure, said: “The structure and equipment of the pavilion are distinguished not only by their visual appeal, but also by their ease of re-use, which perfectly fits the principles of circular economy. The concept is marked by an opening to the outside while containing playful elements inside.”
