The Chamber of Commerce Presented Its Economic Program for Expo 2025 Osaka
As a partner of GIE Luxembourg@Expo2025Osaka, the Chamber of Commerce is organizing three economic missions for its members. These missions offer multiple opportunities to showcase Luxembourg’s economy, particularly in key sectors for Japan such as digitalization, space exploration, and circular economy. The goal is to strengthen Luxembourg’s presence and expand economic opportunities in Japan, a key economic partner in Asia with whom the Grand Duchy has maintained strong ties for many years.
Lex Delles, minister of the Economy, SMEs, Energy, and Tourism, stated:
“Thanks to the fruitful collaboration between the government and the Chamber of Commerce within GIE Luxembourg@Expo2025Osaka, we have established an ambitious economic program, perfectly aligned with our recent efforts to promote Luxembourg in Japan—our second-largest economic partner in Asia. Through the three economic missions organized jointly with the Chamber of Commerce, we will leverage the Luxembourg Pavilion to highlight the country’s economy and its key sectors of mutual interest with Japan.”
General commissioner André Hansen provided insights into the pavilion’s design, offering an update on the construction progress.
For the 25th time since 1851, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is participating in a World Expo with its own pavilion. This presence offers a unique opportunity to present Luxembourg’s reinvention story and its positive impact on partners to an audience of 28 million visitors from 161 countries and 25 international organizations.
Fernand Ernster, President of the Chamber of Commerce, confirmed:
“Luxembourg has a long tradition of participating in World Expos, particularly when the themes align with the country’s interests. This year, engaging with pioneering Japanese industry leaders will allow us to strengthen the Chamber of Commerce’s ties with Japan and further establish our presence in East Asia.”
Expo 2025 Osaka represents a strategic gateway to the Japanese market, a dynamic economy transitioning toward the future. Japan is also one of the region’s most stable economies and democracies. Luxembourgish companies will have the opportunity to establish strategic, high-quality, and long-term connections, while also attracting direct investment.
Carlo Thelen, Director General of the Chamber of Commerce, added:
“Luxembourg’s participation in Expo 2025 Osaka will highlight our commitment to innovation. Japan, a leader in modern technologies and artificial intelligence, shares this mutual interest with Luxembourg. This initiative presents a unique opportunity for Luxembourgish businesses to access the Japanese market and for Luxembourg to diversify its international trade. It will also strengthen the country’s economic image on the global stage, positioning Luxembourg as a reliable partner for tackling future global challenges.”
Organized by the Chamber of Commerce in close collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, the Luxembourg Embassy in Japan, and the Luxembourg Trade and Investment Office in Tokyo, three economic missions will allow participants to explore Japan’s unique economic and cultural advantages.
- The first mission, covering various economic sectors, will take place from May 24 to 31. It will feature a “Luxembourg Day” on May 30, during which participants will have the opportunity to explore the national pavilion at the Expo site.
- The second mission, focusing on the space sector, will be held from July 12 to 18.
- The third mission, scheduled for July 14 to 19, will be dedicated to multiple sectors such as ICT, fintech, robotics, health, and artificial intelligence.
All missions will include company visits, guided tours of the Expo site, meetings with prospects, and networking receptions in both Osaka and Tokyo, Japan’s economic capital. These networking events will provide an ideal platform for deepening discussions with key Japanese stakeholders. The Grand Ducal Court and members of the Luxembourg government will attend the missions’ key events.
